Equipment
Shooting a submarine movie requires a lot of careful preparation and planning. The advantage of freediving is then obvious. You only need to bring your mask, snorkel and fins - and the underwater world is yours. As for freediving, you only need to take one big breath, and you can dive down to look underneath rocks and algea to find the secrets of the sea.
Our current movies are all shot using an OCEANHAUS PC5 aluminum housing equipped with wide-angle lens (www.absea.net) with consumer-grade SONY camcorder. The housing and camera are light and small, as not to hinder movement or scare away the fish. Quite the opposite - the fish gets very curious of the freediving intruder visiting their world.
And cold sea water is no more a problem either. Taylor-made wet suits that fit exactly your body are available from Elios (www.eliossub.com) from ca 200 Euro – this makes it possible to experience the different seasons also under the sea level.
